In this week’s editorial, we discuss a little-known facet of family harm called coercive control. It may not be a fun topic, but it can be the type of behaviour that escalates within a relationship to a more serious level without us really noticing. This topic coincides well with the International Day of the Family on the 15th of May, which could be an opportunity to stop and check the health of our family relationships and the ways in which we communicate and interact with each other.
The team at the Fiordland Families Network are a small group of parents and professionals who have come together to help connect families with local information and to advocate for family services. To help you get to know our team, this week we offer our best suggestions for spending ‘me’ time - it’s so important to look after ourselves! We now have an active Facebook page - find us on Facebook at @fiordlandfamilies to see news, updates, events and much more.
Many thanks, the Fiordland Families Network team
