Fiordland Families Newsletter Issue 14 - 5-19 September

Spring has officially sprung, and the daffodils are showing us this all over town! With spring comes Conservation Week from the 14th to 22nd September. It is 50 years since Conservation Week was started in 1969 by Scouts NZ! That’s worth celebrating! The Department of Conservation is spreading the message that nature needs us - now is the time for New Zealand to take action. With the news of the Amazon burning, climate change-related events, and a recent UN report that 1 million species are at risk of extinction, this message couldn’t be more true.

There are lots of things you can do with your kids to celebrate Conservation Week and do your bit for the environment.

Te Anau has to be one of the best places in New Zealand to get kids into Conservation, so read on for some ideas on how you can take part. We also have an update on the Generation Garden project and some gardening tips!

Enjoy getting out and exploring our beautiful “backyard” this Spring. We’d love to hear back on what you have done for Conservation Week.
